Alicia Queally Named Director of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Hartford

The University of Hartford has announced the appointment of Alicia Queally as the new director of athletics and recreation. With an impressive background in collegiate athletics administration, Queally is poised to lead the Hartford Hawks into the next chapter of their NCAA journey. Her experience, combined with her dedication to academic excellence and creating an inclusive environment, aligns perfectly with the university’s mission.

Queally’s Career and Expertise:

Alicia Queally has spent over two decades in collegiate athletics administration, making a name for herself at various universities in Connecticut. Prior to her appointment at the University of Hartford, Queally served as a member of the senior athletics management team at Stetson University in Florida. In addition to her role as deputy athletic director, she also held the position of senior woman administrator and was responsible for overseeing multiple sports and key areas such as budget and administration, ticket operations, facilities, sports medicine, and gender equity.

Queally’s extensive experience extends beyond her time at Stetson. She has held positions at Sacred Heart University, the University of Connecticut, the University of New Haven, and Seton Hall University, gaining valuable knowledge in all phases of athletics administration. Her involvement in conference, championship, and national committees, including roles on the NCAA Legislative Council and NCAA Nominating Committee, further highlights her expertise and dedication to the field.

A Vision for Success:

Queally’s appointment comes at an exciting time for the University of Hartford, as the Hawks recently began competition as a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The team’s success is already evident, with the women’s soccer team claiming the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Division III postseason championship. Queally’s vision for success revolves around empowering student-athletes and creating a positive and competitive collegiate athletic experience. She aims to honor the traditions of the past while working towards building a better future for the department and the university as a whole.

Queally’s Background and Community Engagement:

Queally’s passion for athletics began during her time as a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina, where she was part of NCAA Tournament teams in both basketball and volleyball. She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in management and society, as well as sociology, and received the ACC Top 6 for Service Award in recognition of her community service efforts. Later, she obtained a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in management from Seton Hall University.

Despite her busy schedule, Queally remains committed to giving back to the community. Currently residing in Florida, she serves as a board member of The House Next Door, an organization dedicated to nurturing and empowering families to build stronger communities.
